We played this song in the record store, and I remember being fearful for these guys, like the government was going to get them and shut them up for this song. That was a creepy time in America, and !!! helped us dance through it like it was nothing.
Whenever people complain to me about Autechre being too noisy, too mechanical and disjointed, I point them to this track and say "Autechre already perfected musical emotion. They've moved on."
The most perfect 2 minutes spent in the history of sound. Boards of Canada inspired a cultish devotion in me with this song. I want this played at my funeral, as my casket is being taken out of the parlor. They just have to be quick about it.
There were many road trips with Boards of Canada playing in the stereo, and no matter where I was, as the telephone poles did their staccato flash by, or as the snowstorm caught us in the Colorado mountains, BOC shrouded everything in mystery.
Was not expecting this blast of pure soul sunshine from Mr. Lidell. I've been following Jamie since his days in Super_Collider, and he still surprises me, even after I've seen him live 5 different times. And my girl is OBSESSED with him!!! Cheers, Jamie!
This song was it. This was the gateway, the portal, the vast opening that I curiously stumbled through, this was the bottle that said "drink me", the lure into the wonderful world of Warp Records. And I never came back.
I would skip school and park my car under a canopy of trees, open the sunroof, and as this song floated through my tinny speakers towards the trees above, I would drift into the lovely oblivion that is S.A.W. II. I will never tire of this album.
